What is The Loop in Wrightsville Beach NC?

Map of The Loop, Wrightsville Beach NC
If you're a newcomer to Wrightsville Beach or the Wilmington, NC area, you've probably heard people refer to "the loop" and wondered what in the world they're talking about. The John Nesbitt Loop (just "the loop," to locals) is a popular trail located in Wrightsville Beach.

This 2.45-mile stretch begins at Causeway Drive/U.S. Hwy. 76, wraps around North Lumina Drive, bends along Salisbury Street/U.S. Hwy. 74 over Banks Channel and then connects back to Causeway Drive/U.S. Hwy. 76.

The loop is commonly used for walking, biking, jogging and skating. Whether you want to get some fresh air and exercise or you just want to enjoy the scenic beauty of the island, the loop is a well-loved fixture of Wrightsville Beach. The loop is also a great place to walk your four-legged friends (just make sure you pick up after them or you could be fined $250!)

UNCW Beach Blast, Wrightsville Beach NC

UNCW Beach Blast - photo from
August is a month of mixed feelings for most students. While they're saying farewell to their summer jobs and carefree days at the beach, they're looking forward to the start of a new semester and furthering their academic careers. Although warm summer weather usually extends well into September here in Wilmington, the annual UNCW Beach Blast offers students one last beach party before hitting the books in August.

This year's UNCW Beach Blast will take place on August 21, 2012 at Wrightsville Beach. The usual spot for the festivities is along the shore near the Crystal Pier (the stretch between beach accesses #35 and #38). Set up for the event will begin at 7 a.m. and the fun will continue through 3 p.m.

In addition to offering fun, sun and surf, the annual Beach Blast also offers a chance for students to get to know the community and sometimes even lend a helping hand. Past events have coincided with free surf camps from various surfing schools in the area as well as ECO Beach Sweeps, making sure no trash is left behind.

If you're a UNCW student, don't miss out on this awesome community event, organized just for you!
